Putting Together the Pieces

Where to start with out this sounding like a ploy for sympathy?
My maternal grandmother passed away last Sunday on October 12, 2008 at 81 from complications from flu. (It’s hitting hard this year to the elderly; get your flu shot.)  How can I explain the tangled mess of emotions this has triggered?
